In the previous version of Internet Explorer, you can change the default search engine provider easily from the settings option. But you can also just type your query into Internet Explorers Address bar, and press the Enter key. This is how you set Google as the default search engine. In IE, each search engine you add to the browser is called a search scope in the registry.

I tested this on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 and it worked on all three operating systems. When you want to search for something on the Internet, youd normally navigate to a search engine using Internet Explorer.

Look for the orange “Add to Internet Explorer” button and tap it. The default search engine is indeed set by the provider. Apparently, the only way I could figure out how to resolve this, was to install the google toolbar, which also installs google search. This helps you searching anything using Google directly from home page. Step 2: Once you’ve arrived at the IE Add-on Gallery, search for “Google Search.” Once you’ve found the add-on, select it, and you’ll be taken to a full-screen for the Google Search addition. Step 2: Change your default search engine to Google Next to Default search engine, click on the drop down menu and select Google. Change your existing default search setting and set it to Google to any web browser. You’ll need to go to the Internet Explorer Add-on Gallery (linked here) to add Google as your default search engine. Step 1: Beginning at the Start Screen, launch Desktop mode then open Internet Explorer.
